About Our Certified Used Power Equipment
Our certified used power equipment includes Cat® diesel and natural gas generators. We restore both portable and stationary models. The certification process consists of an in-depth inspection of every critical generator part. Once technicians have gone over the equipment, they will replace any necessary parts, test the generator and renew its appearance.
The In-Depth Process We Follow
Our expert technicians conduct an 80-point inspection of the generator and take corrective action as necessary to restore optimal performance.
Inspections
Here are the components we review during our inspection:
- Cooling system: We inspect the cooling system for leaks, damage, or obstructions. During this process, we look at the radiator cap, belts, fan drive and connections. We also analyze antifreeze percentage and test a coolant sample.
- Engine: We inspect the engine and lubrication system for leaks and examine all major castings, including the crankshaft breather, gaskets, oil cooler, and more. If necessary, we can perform a blow-by test. Our engine inspection also includes checking oil pressure and analyzing an oil sample.
- Fuel system: Technicians look for leaks in fuel lines and inspect the fuel pump. They may also pressure test the fuel pump if necessary.
- Electrical systems: Our team looks at the control panel, frequency and voltage. They verify proper operation of the voltage regulator and circuit breaker and may perform a megometer test when necessary.
We also perform these inspections:
- Air intake and exhaust for leaks
- Exhaust manifold, turbocharger, piping, connections
- Starting systems for proper operations
- Battery charger and batteries
- Charging alternator and starting motor
Service
Our thorough inspection process reveals any parts that may need replacement. For example, if we identify a leak in fuel lines, we will replace them. We also swap out all fluids, oil filters and fuel filters. During this inspection, we remove and replace any obsolete features with updated components.
Final Testing
Once we complete our inspections and part replacements, we conduct a one-hour load bank test. We operate the generator at full or near-full load for an hour to ensure it operates reliably when needed. Finally, we pressure wash and clean the system to restore its appearance.
Included Warranty & Optional Extended Warranty
Each certified used power system comes with a MacAllister Certified Used Power Equipment Limited Warranty. The MacAllister Limited Warranty guarantees that generators will be free from defects for a period of six months from the date of invoice. The Cat Platinum Extended Service Coverage (ESC) Warranty may also be added on top of the MacAllister Limited Warranty for qualified equipment. The ESC warranty helps protect you from unexpected repairs by covering the costs of parts and labor for a specified period after your purchase.
